6 INVESTORS , CORPOR ATES , AND MENTORS A M A S I A JOHN KIM John's career has taken him across a diverse range of operating and investing environments from early stage startups to Fortune 500 companies. For the last decade before founding cross border venture capital firm Amasia, John focused in finance, serving as Senior Vice President at Mercuria Energy Group, Executive Director at Goldman Sachs and Portfolio Manager at Korean National Investments. John started his career as an entrepreneur, founding music internet and e-consulting businesses before joining Merck & Co as a System Specialist. He left Merck to start his third company, a Delaware incorporated rock band called The Ally. John toured across America and recorded with top artists most notably receiving a platinum record for his album contribution with Grammy award winner Brandy. He is a Kauffman Fellow and a Member of the Young Presidents Organization. A S I A P A R T N E R S OLIVER RIPPEL Oliver Rippel joined Asia Partners as a Founding Partner. Previously he was the CEO of B2C e-commerce for Naspers, which included all e-tail, marketplace, and travel operations globally. Oliver led Naspers' investments in Flipkart and served as Director to the Board for six years. In August 2018, Flipkart's exit to Walmart in India's largest ever exit, and one of the largest exits globally in the Internet and e-commerce space. Oliver started his career at eBay — first in his home country Germany and then as part of the Asia-Pacific region in China, Korea, and Southeast Asia. There, he mostly focused on strategy, business development, as well as category management and marketing operations. He studied economics in Berlin, Germany and holds the INSEAD Certificate in Corporate Governance. Oliver is also a member of the Young Presidents Organization Singapore Chapter. A S I A V E N T U R E G R O U P TIM MARBACH Tim is a global entrepreneur and venture investor. He started his first company bonial.com in 2008 and sold it to German media conglomerate Axel Springer SE in 2011. In 2013, Tim relocated to Southeast Asia and has since co-founded and invested in many successful consumer internet companies through his private internet holding company Asia Venture Group. Those companies have successfully raised several hundred million USD in follow-on venture capital and employ several thousand employees across the global. S P E A K E R
