Our Goal: Become the go-‐to place for students to connect with relevant academic tutors in every city in the world. The opportunity we're after: The global private tutoring market is estimated to reach $102.8B by 2018. Market Players: Large tutoring Centers (20%), Local tutoring agencies (35%), Schools (10%), Individual tutors (35%). The problem: Students struggle to connect with tutors that meet their particular learning needs. Tutoring centers provide standardized tutoring solutions that usually don't help students solve the challenges they face when studying by themselves. The alternative is to reach out to family members or individual tutors referenced by friends, which proves to be a cumbersome and not very effective option. Our Solution: A platform that allows students to easily connect to relevant tutors in their area, by tracking the reputation of local tutors and using social graph data and user preferences to make ideal student-‐tutor matches. Our Business Model: Students make tutor reservations through our platform by paying for a number of hours with a specific tutor and we charge tutors a 10-‐30% fee over the total value paid. Our Track Record: We founded a local tutoring agency in 2009 that has connected over 400 tutors with more than 3,000 students and has processed over 30,000 hours of tutoring sessions in Bogotá alone. We understand both tutors and students and Tutorya is the result of our experience. We want to make one-‐to-‐one learning an easier and more effective experience for students around the world. The founders: Daniel S. Rincón, CEO: Founder of local tutoring agency Ideas AE, BS Mathematics & Economics Carlos Liévano, CTO: Product Manager at EdTech Silicon Valley company, Brightstorm , BS Computer Science and Industrial Engineering, MBA UC Berkley. Traction: • Seed funded by Innpulsa Colombia with over $190k in February 2013. • Selected for the Apps.co – Colombia Acceleration program in March 2013. • Launched private Beta in April 2013 and reached full beta tester capacity (300 tutors) in only 5 days.
