ENDEAVOR WHITE PAPER 2013 welcome! Catherine Townshend, MD of Endeavor SA Endeavor South Africa is proud to have been the official host of Global Entrepre- neurship Week (GEW) in South Africa in November 2012; and I am happy to say that we will once again be the host in 2013. GEW provides us with an opportunity to celebrate success stories of great South African entrepreneurs, and, perhaps more importantly, to hold discussions with lead- ing thinkers and contributors to entrepre- neurship on what is needed in South Africa to "create the right climate to grow and support high-impact entrepreneurs". The Fourth State of Entrepreneurship in South Africa Summit was held on w WELCOME! 12 November 2012 and this White Paper is the outcome of the ideas we shared on that day. The debate was divided into two parts: a headline panel, which broadly examined the four important elements of the envisaged ecosystem; and four break-away panels, which drilled down deeper into each of the four elements. In searching for the elements necessary for creating the right ecosystem, the Summit focused only on access to capital, infra- structure, networking and mentorship, and procurement. In addition to the headline panel and the break-away panels, Desmond Nair, SAP Director of Ecosystems and Channels Africa, delivered a presentation on "SAP's support of entrepreneurship". (See page 5.) The summit was sponsored by SAP Busi- ness Management Software Solutions and Applications. South African Breweries was the silver sponsor. Endeavor SA and SAB are working on sev- eral key initiatives which not only provide access to capital, but also much-needed support and mentorship. Endeavor and SAP have been working together on numerous changing initiatives globally. Endeavor, through the power of SAP's enabling capability, showcases the success stories of high-impact entrepre- neurs and their power to transform local economies. Endeavor and SAP are inspiring the next generation of entrepreneurs to create busi- nesses and participate in global dialogue about the power of entrepreneurship. 3 Catherine Townshend, MD, Endeavor SA
