[Read more] SAP'S SUPPORT OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP Desmond Nair, SAP Director of Ecosys- tems and Channels Africa, explained to the participants of the Fourth State of Entrepre- neurship in South Africa Summit that SAP is committed to the communities in which it operates and believes that the private sector plays a vital role in levelling the playing field, driving innovation and building an environ- ment that improves education and entrepre- neurship to help improve economic growth. He pointed to the following ways in which SAP fosters entrepreneurship: • Helps entrepreneurs succeed, benefit- ing from effective regulation, mentoring, technology and other resources • Provides its technology expertise and mentorship to emerging entrepreneurs with a viable, innovative business idea that addresses a social need • Encourages entrepreneurship among young people, helping them recognise – and seize – new business opportunities • Supporting these entrepreneurs also feeds our own innovation, helps develop new markets in which SAP can thrive, and creates a dynamic business network. To take the pulse of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), SAP recently sponsored research by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU). It conducted a survey of 1 072 senior SAP support managers in five developed and five emerg- ing markets across the world in July and August 2012. The developed economies were France, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States; respond- ents in these countries totalled 535. The emerging economies were Brazil, China, India, Mexico and Russia; respondents in these countries totalled 537. All the compa- nies surveyed report annual revenues under $750m; over three-quarters of all respond- ents (76%) represent firms with revenues below $250m; over half (52%) represent companies with revenues below $100m. The survey asked managers how confident they feel; what their main business priorities are; how they are addressing opportunities; and what obstacles they face. In addition, the EIU conducted an interview programme with senior managers of SMEs in devel- oped and emerging economies, with annual turnover between $2m and $475m. Read the results here. Together, Endeavor and SAP developed an interactive dashboard that compares En- deavor companies' growth figures against data of similar companies from the World Bank's Enterprise Surveys. The data shows that Endeavor Entrepreneurs are creating revenue and jobs faster than their peers. To view the complete report, click here. The power of high-impact entrepreneurs 5
