procurement ment in which they are operating. The second, and more fundamental, issue is the need for large companies to move beyond adhering to the minimum requirements of BBBEE Codes of Good Practice. There is still a great deal of resistance to the legislation and this, together with a profound lack of infor- mation about the enterprise develop- ment and procurement space, frequently means that myths and hearsay shape strategy rather than facts. The challenge is to convince companies that there is a good business case for adhering to the BBBEE Codes. A robust and grow- ing economy that supports high-growth businesses will benefit all. The third issue relates to the disconnect between procurement and enterprise development. While companies may have impressive enterprise development poli- cies, it often turns out that those policies are not in sync with their procurement policies. It is imperative that companies integrate these policies, which will also help them to go beyond mere lip service when it comes to their implementation of BBBEE requirements.
