FOR AN ENTREPRENEURIAL REVOLUTION IN OUR CITIES As all non-governmental organization, we exist to solve a society's problems. Endeavor is acting in Brazil since 2000 with the goal to transform the country into a reference of entrepreneurship in the world. After almost 15 years, can we say that we got there and achieved our goal? An optimistic view would say that we are almost there: the interest of Brazilians in becoming en- trepreneurs and the ones really "doing it" break records every year. On the other hand, if we take a deep look at the quality of businesses that are being created and managed in the country, we note how many battles we still have to win: Brazilians entrepreneurs are poor innovators, their business have low growth potential, few of them can be considered "world class", and the entrepreneurial ecosystem is still hostile. This largely explains why, in a universe of nearly 5 million businesses, just 35,000 are classified as high growth companies, being responsible for more than half of the job creation in Brazil. How do we triple of the numbers of these high-impact entrepreneurs? The first answer may be in the Brazilians cities. Although the national challenges are huge, the disparity of regional and local realities in the country is so big it become impossible to talk about a unique "national entrepreneurial ecosystem", meaning that the problems and virtues can be really different depending on each city. This Entrepreneurial City Index — Brazil 2014 is a contribution of Endeavor to enhance the debate about the entrepreneurial ecosystem in the country, based in datasets and best practice cases that can be used for all Brazilians cities and for policy makers in the national, state and municipal level. It is up to society, especially entrepreneurs and the media, to take charge of improvements that, with this study and future editions, are measurable and comparable across the country.
