Endeavor helps its entrepreneurs take on a key role in their ecosystems—90% of Endeavor Entrepreneurs go on to serve as angel investors, mentors, and active promoters of high-impact entrepreneurship. In 2015, Endeavor Insight, in coopera- tion with Mercy Corps Egypt, com- pleted a comprehensive survey of the Cairo tech sector. By gathering data from the founders of hundreds of local tech firms, Endeavor mapped the com- plex, interwoven network of connec- tions that continues to grow between the city's many innovative entrepreneurs. Endeavor asked founders a number of questions—Who mentored you? Who inspired you? Who did you invest in?—in order to draw out the details of this web of connections. e survey found that the Cairo tech ecosystem was very minute in the 1990s but saw a robust expansion by the early 2000s, with the number of tech firms more than doubling over a four year period. Today, Cairo's ecosystem has become a well-developed and complex network with a few prominent companies paving the way. In fact, the research found that nearly 30% of the firms in the network were started by former employees of other Cairo tech companies.
