Healthcare and Medical technology Endeavor Miami finds that substantial growth is expected to occur in the sectors of talent needed to fuel the growth of the medical technology sector. The total number of South Florida occupations is expected to grow at a rate of approximately 1.2% CAGR from 2014-2022, while the total number of: Biomedical Engineers in South Florida is expected to grow at a rate of 5.3% CAGR; Mechanical Engineers in South Florida is expected to grow at a rate of 1.4% CAGR; and Electrical Engineers in South Florida is expected to grow at a rate of 1.4% CAGR, during the same time period. 1 Additionally, the South Florida region is Florida's largest medical hub with more than 20% of the state's healthcare industry earnings coming from the region. 2 Innovative lower cost technology driven by pressure to keep healthcare costs low and by design for emerging markets. Manufacturing trend of making multi-functional devices for range of applications to reduce footprint on hospital floor space. Smart electronics with array of applications to improve patient monitoring both in and out of the hospital, e.g. smart catheters. Nanoparticles for fighting cancer and improving disease detection. Nano-features on device surfaces, e.g. on implants to improve surface properties. Technologies that overlay data and image to help streamline workflow. Multi-functional Flexible Electronics Nanotechnology Augmented Reality Interoperability of med devices and software to communicate and exchange data while streamlining workflow and reducing errors. IT infrastructure updates to support integration of multiple medical devices and optimize treatment.
