WENCES CASARES Founder & CEO, Xapo NICK BEIM Partner, Venrock Wences Casares is the founder and CEO of Xapo, a Bitcoin wallet startup based in Palo Alto, California. Wences sits on the board of PayPal and, as part of his non-profit activities, serves on the boards of Endeavor and Kiva. Originally from Patagonia, Argentina, Wences launched the country's first Internet Service Provider—Internet Argentina S.A.—in 1994. Upon selling Internet Argentina S.A., he founded the Argentine online brokerage Patagon in 1997, which was acquired by the Spanish bank, Banco Santander, for $750 million in 2000. Wences has founded a number of other companies including Wanako Games, a videogame developer headquartered in New York City, which was acquired by Activision. Banco Lemon, a retail bank for the underbanked in Brazil, which was acquired by Banco do Brasil in June 2009. And, Lemon, a digital wallet platform, which was acquired in 2013 by the American firm LifeLock. He is an elected member of the World Economic Forum's "Young Global Leaders" Class of 2011 and is a member of the Young Presidents' Organization. He studied business administration for three years at the University of San Andrés in Buenos Aires, and completed the Owner/President Management Program at Harvard University. Nick Beim is a Partner at Venrock, where he focuses primarily on software, big data, fintech and consumer investments. His investments include Dataminr, a real-time information discovery platform; Intent Media, a big data innovator that helps ecommerce companies monetize their data assets; Kontor, a search and discovery platform for the commercial design industry; Care.com, the leading care services platform in the US; JBoss, an open source application server platform; and Conductor, a content marketing SaaS platform (among others). Before joining Venrock in 2013, Nick was a General Partner at Matrix Partners, and prior to that worked in the technology groups at McKinsey and Goldman Sachs. Nick holds a bachelor's degree from Stanford University and an M.Phil. from Oxford University, where he was a Marshall Scholar. Philanthropically, Nick is interested in accelerating international development through entrepreneurship, and he serves on the board of Endeavor. He is also a board member at the Center on Global Energy Policy and a member at the Council on Foreign Relations. 5 S P E A K E R S
