Our financial bottom line and social impact go hand-in-hand." LEONARDO LIMA DE CARVALHO Founder & President, ToLife ToLife, founded by Leonardo Lima de Carvalho, is a Brazilian- based technology firm with a triaging system designed to speed service at hospitals and clinics and to cut both mortality rates and waiting times. Brazil's healthcare system is plagued with inefficiency – every hour, 30,000 people check into a Brazilian emergency room. Each patient takes approximately two hours to be seen by a doctor, and more than half of these cases turn out to be non-critical conditions that distract doctors from treating the seriously ill. ToLife solves this inefficiency by automating the triage process based on patients' risk rating using internationally recognized protocols such as the Manchester Protocol. ToLife's technology has cut both the risk of mortality caused by a cardiovascular complication and the average patient waiting time in half. Vox Capital, Brazil's first impact investment fund, led ToLife's Series B round in April 2015 – with participation from Endeavor Catalyst – to help the company expand to facilities serv- ing Brazil's poor. ToLife's product is now used for 150,000 screenings a day in 5,000 health facilities around Brazil. ToLife has impacted over 110mm people since its inception, of which 68% are in Classes C, D, and E. ˜ese classes correspond to lower gross monthly household income levels and typically lower education levels. When asked how he reconciles financial goals with social impact goals, Leonardo responded: "Because the ToLife solution naturally serves the people and the public sector - each ToLife sale inherently increases our social impact. Our financial bottom line and social impact go hand-in-hand." When asked how he pays his success forward, Leonardo expressed: "It's a pleasure to help other entrepreneurs. I've found that Endeavor Entrepreneurs are very willing to help each other. Mentoring is one of the ways I give back and pay forward the support that Endeavor has given me."
