In 2011, our research group, Endeavor Insight,
made a notable observation.
The tech sector in Buenos Aires is thriving despite significant macroeconomic
and political challenges. Endeavor Insight set out to determine why.
Challenges:
• Economic crisis and persistent inflation in the 2000s
• Difficult business environment (e.g., government takeover
of YPF)
Success:
• Hundreds of tech firms, including several $100M+ exits
• Top firms, like Google and Yahoo!, set up local offices
Anecdotal evidence:
• Connections among entrepreneurs cited as very important
• Mentorship, investment and inspiration seen multiple times
