In order to benchmark against existing
social and environmental impact mea-
surement practices, we first mapped IRIS,
GIIRS, and Endeavor metrics against each
other. We then created a survey to collect
information on a subset of these metrics.
The survey was also based, in part, on the
B Lab Impact Assessment, to ensure that
the social and environmental footprint
of our portfolio companies can be mea-
sured against those of other companies
in the field.
e survey consisted of five sections:
SOCIAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL
IMPACT: Included questions related
to the company's mission.
ECOSYSTEM DEVELOPMENT:
Included questions related to the
founder's willingness to mentor other
entrepreneurs and make angel invest-
ments, as well as questions regarding
serial entrepreneurship, employee spin-
outs, and give-back to Endeavor.
LEADERSHIP: Included questions
about founder involvement in
day-to-day operations, gender break-
down of the boardrooms, and other
issues.
EMPLOYMENT: Included questions
about hiring practices, number of
employees, and types of employees.
COMPENSATION: Included ques-
tions to understand the employee
compensation and benefits.
We had a 78% response rate to the survey.
To complement the quantitative findings
of our research, we conducted interviews
with select founders to further explore
their views in the above subject areas, and
to understand how being an Endeavor
Entrepreneur, and an Endeavor Catalyst
Investee in particular, has impacted their
businesses.
