10 PAOLO GESESS United Ventures Italy Paolo is the co-founder and managing partner of United Ventures. Paolo has spent over 20 years in the technology sector with the last 18 years in the venture capital industry. Prior to United, he was a general partner at 360 Capital Partners. He also founded Jupiter Ventures, which was one of the top quartile venture capital funds in Europe (closed in '09 with a portfolio return of 6x). Over the past years, he has scouted and executed several investments in start-ups and innovating companies where he acts as a proactive board member. Having graduated with a degree in economics and commerce from Turin University, Paolo is registered with the association of auditors. He is often invited to speak at the Milan Polytechnic and Bocconi University in Milan about venture capital and entrepreneurship. LORENZO FRANCHINI ScaleIT Capital Italy Lorenzo is a founding partner of ScaleIT Capital. Lorenzo has an extensive background in the venture investing arena. He is the senior advisor of LVenture Group, where he helps support later stage portfolio companies on their path to exit by accelerating their growth and scale. Lorenzo also co- founded Italian Angels for Growth, one of the top European angel investors groups. Moreover, he is the founder of the event platform ScaleIT, which gives visibility to international investors of the Italian scaleup market. Previous experience includes being the marketing director of Stage Entertainment Italy and managing director of City Products. BAKHROM IBRAGIMOV EBRD Venture Capital United Kingdom Bakhrom leads the EBRD venture capital team where he is responsible for technology investments in the CEEMEA region. He previously led investments in European and US technology companies as Founding Principal of Virgin Green Fund and as Investment Director of TLcom Capital. Bakhrom also served as Internet Finance Director and Associate Director of Planning and Analysis at Virgin Media. Bakhrom started his career as a technology investment banker with Cowen & Co and CSFB/ DLJ. Bakhrom holds two masters degrees from the London School of Economics and Cambridge University, and an honors bachelor degree from Tashkent State Technical University in Uzbekistan. HANI ENAYA Riyad Taqnia Fund Saudi Arabia Hani is Head of Investments at Taqnia and Managing Director of Riyad Taqnia Fund. Hani is a co- founder and board member of Carbonics, a startup that aims to revolutionize RF chip technology. Hani also co-founded and invested in Mad Tomato, a Saudi media company. Hani served as the Director of the Center of Excellence for Green Nanotechnologies (CEGN) at UCLA and KACST during the period 2010-2014. Prior to CEGN, he spent more than 2 years with the Islamic Development Bank Group as a structured finance investment manager focusing on energy public private partnership (PPP) deals in the Middle East and Southeast Asia. Hani obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree in Physics and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from North Carolina State University (NCSU). In addition, he holds an MBA degree (Finance major) from The Wharton School of Business.
