Ò When Stanford Business School graduate Marcos Galperin returned home to Argentina in 1999 and launched MercadoLibre, an online auction company modeled on eBay, some said it was a copycat. In fact, Marcos and his co-founder Hernán Kazah had tweaked the model to serve the needs of regional customers, focusing on innovations in payments and delivery. MercadoLibre quickly took off. e next year, when eBay purchased a stake in the company, Endeavor mentors helped the entrepreneurs negotiate the terms. In 2007, the company went public on the Nasdaq. In 2017, MercadoLibre replaced Yahoo! on the Nasdaq-100, and shortly after became the first Endeavor company to surpass a $10 billion market cap. In the meantime, Marcos joined the board of Endeavor Argentina, and became a mentor to thousands of entrepreneurs both in- and outside of the Endeavor network, including the founders of Globant [p. 22].
