6 Marissa Mayer, one of the most prominent leaders in Silicon Valley, served as President and CEO of Yahoo from 2012–2017, where she led the internet giant's push to reinvent itself for the mobile era. With a renewed focus on user experience, Marissa grew Yahoo to serve over 1 billion people worldwide—with over 600 million mobile users—and transformed its advertising approach, inventing new formats for mobile, video, native, and social and expanding its investment areas into a billion dollar business. In June 2017, Marissa oversaw the successful sale of Yahoo's operating business to Verizon Communications. Prior to Yahoo, Marissa was a fixture at Google, where she joined as the twentieth employee and first female engineer, and held numerous leadership positions, including stints as an engineer, designer, product manager, and the Executive Vice President of Local, Maps, and Location Services. During her tenure at Google, she launched more than 100 well-known products and led the Google search project management team for over a decade, overseeing the platform's growth into one of the most celebrated and ubiquitous tools on the internet. Marissa began her career at the UBS research lab in Zurich, Switzerland and at SRI International in Menlo Park, California. She graduated with honors from Stanford University with a BS in Symbolic Systems and a MS in Computer Science. She currently serves on the board of directors of Walmart, and is a member of the board of trustees for the Lucile Packard Children's Hospital, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and the San Francisco Ballet. Dara Khosrowshahi is the CEO of Uber, where he manages the company's fast-growing business in nearly 80 countries around the world and leads a global team of more than 16,000 employees. Dara was previously CEO of Expedia, where he grew the company into one of the world's largest online travel companies. A seasoned executive with a background in both engineering and finance, Dara oversaw a number of acquisitions that bolstered Expedia's offerings and aggressively invested in mobile, which now accounts for more than half of Expedia's traffic. He was also beloved by Expedia's employees and named the Highest Rated CEO on Glassdoor. Dara was promoted to Expedia CEO after serving as the Chief Financial Officer of IAC Travel, a division of IAC, which purchased Expedia in 2001 and spun it off in 2015. He was also instrumental in the expansion of IAC's portfolio of travel brands. Before joining IAC, Dara served as Vice President of Allen & Company and spent a number of years as an analyst. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Expedia and was previously on the Board of the New York Times Company. He's a passionate advocate for refugees in crisis around the world, having himself left Iran during the Iranian revolution at the age of nine.
