I am searching for what I call my "teaspoon" innovation. Most people do not know who invented the teaspoon, but the teaspoon is one of the best inventions ever and has impacted all our lives. I am looking for that, and like the inventor of the teaspoon, don't need anyone to know it was me. Maybe it is Paga… Paga is an emerging markets payments company I founded in 2009 to solve the "use of cash" problem around the world. Nigeria is our first market and we are the leading mobile money operator in Nigeria. We are now expanding to other large countries where the problems we seek to solve exist. Prior to Paga I was in Private Equity in Nigeria and before moving back to Nigeria in 2008 I spent three years with Cisco's Acquisitions and Venture team. I enjoy bringing ideas to life and helping build sustainable businesses. This is why I also give back by investing and mentoring other entrepreneurs. I do so primarily through Kairos Angels, an angel club I co-founded. I'm grateful for the wonderful team of 460+ people at Paga and how our work has been recognized. Most notably with CNBC selecting me as Entrepreneur of the Year West Africa in 2014 and Paga being selected as the outstanding growing company of the year in Africa in 2015. I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, cum laude, from the University of Southern California and MBA from Stanford GSB. Thiago is the Founder & CEO of Guiabolso, the leading personal finance platform in Brazil, which has the mission of improving Brazilians lives and transforming the financial system. Thiago deeply believes that personal transformation comes from being fully empowered and that requires having the right tools and education. Right out of university he joined Alfasol, an NGO that manages literacy classes for young and adults which became the largest Brazilian NGO at the time with +5 million students across the poorer areas of Brazil. He later joined McKinsey where he focused on financial services. After 5 years, he left to found Guiabolso in 2012 where he is also empowering people, this time to take control over their financial lives by providing them with the right tools and education. Guiabolso leverages Digital and AI to scale in a massively large market full of distortions and inefficiencies. In his private life, Thiago (thinks he) manages a "tribe" of 4 children of all different ages (1, 4, 16 and 22 year old) which keeps him very busy when he is not working. When he has some "scape" time he also plays the Electric Guitar in his home studio. Now with 4 kids he thinks he may finally have the right members to form a band that will tour the world. I am an entrepreneur and starting companies is a real thrill for me. I started out my career as a Navy SEAL and have taken much of what I learned there to build great teams in the companies I start.
